‘Monster-mol’ Characula accompanies UK Tour with sultry new single ‘Headstone’ from Upcoming EP

New track from dark rock goddess, plus UK live dates

Hailing from Southern California, Characula is a unique artist the likes of which you won’t have seen before. A character who is part sci-fi, part horror and all glamour, Characula revels in the macabre world of B-movie monsters.

With rock songs spinning tales of erotic meetings with strange beings, sucking souls from unsuspecting men and chomping down on large spiders, the closest comparison is possibly with the darkest corners of the Rocky Horror Picture Show – only more twisted.

You can hear her sultry new rock single, ‘Headstone’, here: https://soundcloud.com/characula/headstone

Uber-eccentric and a progenitor of sizzling sci-fi seduction, Characula is the alter-ego of singer-songwriter Cheri Anaclerio, who is looking to make the rock-horror character into an edgy, memorable reflection of her own spiralling imagination.

It’s a truly unique musical project, produced by renowned rock specialist Dito Godwin (No Doubt, Great White, KISS, Motley Crue). With an album on the way, you will also be able to catch Characula on a UK stage near you soon.

IF you haven’t seen it already, you can watch the video for her ‘Mummy Dance’ track here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRNikva89yY

By Definition single ‘Warrior’ due early June, following ‘The Concerns of Mortal Man’ LP (May 26th)

Brighton metalheads offer their first releases since debut EP ‘Over Clocked, Under Threat’.

Having played Hard Rock Festival in Ibiza, and with giants like Black Label Society and Black Stone Cherry, five piece By Definition are really starting to get the recognition they deserve.

No strangers to the heavy rock bear pit they create with their live shows, their sets are notorious for their energy and originality. With an eye-catching front man described as ‘cool as sh*t’ by Underground Reviews, one memorable show in Holland also saw guitarist Rob smash two of his guitars within 30 minutes…

Single ‘Warrior’ is a stomping, anthemic track driven by a hard, chugging melody reminiscent of the aformentioned Black Stone Cherry. Officially released early June, you can take a listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/bydefinition/warrior

The new album, ‘The Concerns of Mortal Men’, was born from a new found self-assurance the band have recently found in their sound.

Frontman Si puts it less subtly: “We don’t give a shit what people think anymore”.

‘The Concerns of Mortal Men’ finds the band trying to bridge the gap between rock and metal whilst taking influences from hip-hop rhythms and technical inspirations from electronic music. Their biggest project to date, they have brought in Alan Douches (Motorhead, The Defiled Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder) to master the album.

Beyond making great music, having an original live set and developing a strong following, By Definition are not your every day rock band. All self-confessed comic book geeks, Dan has a degree in theatre writing while Rob (guitar) produces electronic music in his spare time. Meanwhile, Si (vocals) has a passion for loose leaf tea – a hobby which once got him stopped at customs while they analysed a stash of green brown leaves he had with him…

‘The Concerns of Mortal Man’ LP is out May 26th, followed by single ‘Warrior’ in early June.

Press quotes:

Black Label Society styled, whiskey soaked, dirty rock”.
Rock Sound

“Straight-forward, heavy-hitting and down right filthy. Each song shit-kicks you with punishing riffage, bombastic drumming and a whiskey-swilling attitude”.
Heavy Planet

“Best described as the 30 year old you’re not entirely sure you invited to your party, who has drunk all the beer…You may not have invited him, but frankly, he doesn’t care and you kind of want to get to know him anyway…”
Noise Addiction

Tour dates:

26th May – Sticky Mikes – Brighton

28th May – Bar 42 – Worthing

30th May – The Hermit Club – Brentwood

31st May – Asylum – Hereford

3rd June – Bull & Vic – Dartford

Armand Margjeka LP ‘Hummingbird’ release June 10th

2nd album to be released through PIPEANDGUN Recorders

Created by cherry picking the ten best tracks from a collection of almost 100 recordings, the new album Hummingbird from Albanian indie folk pop artist will be released by PIPEANDGUN Recorders this Summer.

Listen to the Hummingbird single here: https://soundcloud.com/pipeandgun/armand-margjeka-hummingbird-1?in=pipeandgun/sets/armand-margjeka-hummingbird/s-mOvtH

Produced by Margjeka with the aid of a team including three time Grammy award winner Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck, Outkast, Gnarls Barkley), Chris Steffen (Stereophonics, Ben Harper) and Eric Masse (Escondido, Robert Ellis), the collection marks a real step forward for Margjeka – the result of his most creative and mature recording sessions yet.

Brought up with a love for Western rock’n’roll and inspired by pop legends Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis to 1990’s MTV Europe, Armand Margjeka’s musical influences were drip fed during his formative years as Western music slowly made its way into a country still reeling from the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Margjeka released his debut solo album Margo Margo in 2011. “I want to do music without any preconceived parameters. I like to combine unexpected elements in my music. Margo Margo is completely honest and shows the directions I want to pursue in my song writing and playing.”

Armand Margjeka’s sophomore release Hummingbird represents a series of creative recording sessions and marks a new high for this promising indie songwriter.

Shattered Generation fall ‘Out of Line’ with new single

Rock group set to release new single May 26th

Based in Nottingham, four piece glam rock group Shattered Generation are looking to make 2014 their breakthrough year.

Their new single ‘Out of Line’ could well be the track to do it, opening with an astonishing, complex guitar riff before giving way to chunky distorted chords and solid rock rhythms and vocals.

Hear it here:

This is excellent, fun rock inspired by the hits of the 80s, an environment where Shattered Generation find themselves more than comfortable and which has allowed them to play alongside Guns 2 Roses (the largest Guns’n’Roses’ tribute band) as well as with fellow up and comers The Peckham Cowboys and The Brink.

Their songs have drawn plenty of attention, not least legendary producers Dito Godwin (Motley Crue, No Doubt) and Jon Moon (Pink Floyd, Bryan Adams), who have both had a hand in their new material. And with the support of these two heavyweights, their sound will likely continue to grow and mature.

It’s all the more impressive considering that lead vocalist Johnny, notable for his energetic on stage performances, has a heart condition which necessitated the insertion of a pace maker last year.

Now though, with that enforced break behind them, Shattered Generation are going from strength to strength – as signalled by this great new single.

If you’d like to hear more from the guys, listen to their previous single ‘Young, Wild N Free’ here: https://soundcloud.com/shattered-generation-1/young-wild-n-free-shattered

Shattered Generation:

Johnny Wildheart (vocals)

Lexi Black (lead guitar)

Acie Wilson (bass guitar)

Jonno Gosling (drums)
