John Graham New Single – “Roll The Dice” And New Album – “Cold Sun”

John Graham 2

UK born but now US based, John Graham’s new album is set to reach these shores showcasing slick, contemporary indie-rock with electronic touches and a heap of swagger. With influences including the Stone roses, Kasabian, The Cure, Depeche mode and more, it’s an album full of ideas which is primed to make an impact. The album is something of a departure for Graham, whose previous work under the name Quivver has seen him gaining countless plaudits producing house and techno music.

However, ‘Cold Sun’ and lead single ‘Roll the Dice’ prove that there are multiple strings to this particular bow,  by turning out tunes which are strongly based on the indie rock genre. These hook laden, energetic tracks are then laced with dynamic electronic ideas, ported over from his experience in the EDM genres, to give them extra flavour. It’s not common that indie, rock and electronic ideas are mixed so effectively, with the latter adding superb textures to the former, and it’s certainly one hell of a combination thanks to the subtlety of John Graham’s genre bending.

This combination is showcased by this superb video for the single  – not suitable for those with a fear of heights, it blends off kilter performance footage with a montage of adrenaline pumping, high risk stunts. It’s a truly compelling watch married to a fantastic musical groove:

His new music does a fantastic job of proving that thanks to a brazen and assured indie rock approach that drips with attitude. It’s a long way from the jungle and house specialist who started out in the 1990s and is well established in that environment. Over the years since, John Graham (as Quivver) has picked up myriad honours and career highs. The quality of his work can be vouched for by over 45,000 online followers, as well as record  deals with Virgin, Warner Brothers  &Hooj Choons who he has had record deals with in the past.

Single ‘Roll the Dice’ is out June 1st, to be followed on June 29th by the ‘Cold Sun’ album, both through Distinctive Records.

Strange Fiction – Tease Her (debut of new album)

A Barcelona based band who all grew up in households surrounded by music, it’s little wonder that the four members of Strange Fiction ended up writing and recording their own music. With varied musical backgrounds, their new album ‘Orange’ is a heady blend of genres, particularly rock, indie and pop, with influences as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Michael Jackson and Tracy Chapman. It’s an unusual mix, but one that shines through in the neat pop groove and vocal of lead single ‘Tease Her’ which gives way to a huge rocking chorus. The track – written about a misunderstanding over a girl at a party which may or may not have resulted in a band member being soaked by beer – is a stellar introduction to the raw sound of the band.

Engineered and recorded in Spain by Tomàs Robisco and mastered in London by Andy “Hippy” Baldwin from Metropolis Studios respectively, the album is a triumph, capturing perfectly the edge that the band works to bring to their live sound.

The songs are specially designed to play well live as well as in the recordings, and if you like what you’re hearing above then keep an eye on the band’s social media – they’ll soon be releasing live, acoustic videos of their songs so music fans all around the world will be able to see the quality of this young band for themselves.

‘Tease Her’ is due for release May 18th with the album to follow on June 1st.

Aubrey Whitfield ready for new single – ‘Every Cloud’

“There are voices then there are voices. When Aubrey Whitfield draws breath on stage it is to produce notes of such quality that crystal seems like a description for broken glass”. – Wirral News

The single, originally written when Whitfield was 17, was given a fresh start and new lyrics four months ago following the end of a relationship. It perfectly captures the realisation that, though she believed her girlfriend to be a soul mate, the pair were never meant to be together in the first place. It’s a simple, relatable concept which will resonate with many who have loved and lost.

PRImage

Originally from Merseyside, Aubrey Whitfield moved to London several years ago to fulfil her musical ambitions and hasn’t looked back since. Her vocal, described as ‘like a grittier Annie Lennox’, is one that simply can’t be ignored once heard, and has led to steadily growing success since her move to the capital.

A hard worker who has paid her dues in the industry, Aubrey Whitfield is proof that – eventually cream will rise to the top. Back in the 2000s, she played Barfly in Liverpool alongside another up and coming band called the Kaiser Chiefs. And now here she is making her own way having gigged at prestigious venues such as The Cavern Club, Guilfest, The Troubadour Club and many more.

Even back then Aubrey Whitfield’s ambitions were clear as she ran her own record label, E3 Records,  from 2001-2004 while living on Merseyside. And with ‘Every Cloud’ now on the horizon, her drive has never been stronger.

Cosby – Summer Gold EP

PRimage

A trio from Richmond, Virginia in the US, Cosby are a band on the rise. With their very own brand of upbeat synth pop with 1980s flavours, they combine anthemic melodies, smooth harmonies, driving guitar hooks, ethereal synth layers and dance beats to great effect on new EP ‘Summer Gold’.

Influenced by the likes of Tears for Fears, Aha, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys but giving their own music a contemporary production sheen, the band were formed when brothers Chris and Chip Cosby joined forces after years of playing separately, the results were golden from the very start. Soon, Mike Levinson entered the fray as drummer and percussionist, and the band haven’t looked back since.

‘Summer Gold’ is the latest fruit of their labours, the quality of which is typified by the pace, energy and huge chorus of pulsating single ‘Heartracer’ – and it also helps that that the arcade game influenced video is a real treat:

‘Playing Mars’ Are A Refreshing Addition to Abstract Music

playing_Mars_001

The enigmatic duo made up of Jeff Shapiro and Angelique Lihou, aka ‘Playing Mars’ are hitting the high notes with new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The newly formed two-piece are set to release the stunningly eerie brand new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The London-based twosome pride themselves on capturing stimulation from vibes caught out of spontaneity. ‘Burning Desire’ is the product of a jamming session on Angelique’s birthday at 4am in Clapton. Upon investment of their creative expertise, the track oozes drama with a conspiratorial feel, with Jeff’s hypnotic bass line and Angelique’s hauntingly melodious vocals.

‘Burning Desire’, showcases the pair’s musical talents and is an artistic demonstration of their unique creative chemistry. The pair are open to and influenced by every day moments that otherwise pass us by; making their music a captivating expression of what we all often think and feel. The pair are very much genuine music makers, taking inspiration from their surroundings, they even used the sound of Angelique’s spike scraping the floor in ‘Burning Desire’.

Wings of Pegasus new rock track ‘That’s Metal (To My Ears)’

Wings of Pegasus

Hard rock with an 80s twist inspired by the likes of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Dokken and more, Wings of Pegasus are a rock band with a big sound and a fresh approach to the music industry. With new single ‘That’s Metal (To My Ears)’ due in May, the band are running a campaign called ‘Make Chart History’, aiming to take the independent release to the very top of the charts, all the while donating the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

Hoping to whip up a groundswell of support, songwriter Fil Henley is working hard to spread the word on the campaign as well as the single itself – an independently produced homage to old 80’s bands with big hair and screeching guitar solos. Designed to encourage listeners to dust off the air guitar, it’s great fun and the most light hearted track on the ‘Persistence’ album, which is out now.

  • Single from debut album ‘Persistence’ out May 10th
  • Raising money for Cancer Research UK through the ‘Make Chart History’ Campaign

The hard work is also typified by Fil Henley’s dedication to conversing personally with all the fans on Twitter, and with the number of followers standing at over 50,000, that’s a lot of messages! It doesn’t hurt that the band have the talent to back up the graft, as proven by their appearance in the final of the ‘Unsigned Festival 2010’ at the IndigO2 venue. Finishing 3rd out of 12,000 bands, it was a huge boost to the group who haven’t looked back since.

Modern Family Unit ready to revitalise modern New Wave with single ‘Mmm mmm mm aah’

MFU Press shot - plain 2015

Single taken from upcoming album ‘Religion’, released April 27th

Manchester based duo Gary Hilton and Steve Southern are a songwriting duo who know how to make an impact. Marrying the classic 80s sounds of the New Wave to contemporary production values, their groove led, synth heavy tunes are dripping with atmosphere, rightly described by the band themselves as a ‘Burlesque groove’.

It’s a phrase which perfectly sums up the retro stylings and the filthy rhythms of both the band as a whole and their upcoming single ‘Mmm mmm mm aah’. Influenced by the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode and Joy Division as well as the theatricality of Gorillaz.

For a sneak peek at the new track, watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiqrIiz8jq0

An extremely talented pair with legitimate pedigree in the industry their fans include Factory Records founder and New Order collaborator Mark Reeder and Mercury Award nominated producer Dave Maughan (Maximo Park, Kathryn Williams) who even leant a hand with the production process. Experienced hands who know their way around the music business, this is a crowd who aren’t easy to impress, yet Modern Family Unit do it thanks to an old school approach based on both talent and respect for the music.

On top of that, the pair have a fiercely independent streak which prevents their tracks from sounding like everything else out there. Previous experiences with a record label – a two album deal just over ten years ago – ended badly, leaving a mistrust of the mainstream way of working. As Modern Family Unit, they’re now looking to make their own way as a pair who know they have each other’s backs.

And it’s a method that’s working. With a TV ad sync deal in the pipeline and great connections within the industry, Modern Family Unit are a band you’re likely to be hearing of sooner than later.

New single ‘ Mmm mmm mm aah’ will be release on March 23rd, with the album ‘Religion’ to follow on April 27th.

Belle Roscoe set to make a bang with second album ‘Boom Boom’

https://soundcloud.com/info-234-1/gun-to-my-head-radio-edit

Born and raised in Australia, sibling duo Belle Roscoe combine contemporary sounds and production with classic retro song writing styles. They have been described as ‘a cross between Arcade Fire & Fleetwood Mac’ but in truth this description does them a disservice. In their varied, melodic music, you can hear many influences, including the eclectic likes of Neil Young, Bowie, Springsteen, Elbow and Fleet Foxes.

It’s a combination, underpinned by flawless sibling vocal harmonies, that tightly fixes their ambition to marry the modern with the classic; an ambition which is more than met with new album ‘Boom Boom’. For a taste of what we’re talking about, check out lead single ‘Gun To My Head’ here:

The new album was written in Paris (recorded between Belgium, Malta and Paris) and is heavily influenced by the joys and hardships of living and writing so far from home – as summed up perfectly on album track ‘Paris II’, itself a follow up to ‘Paris’ from their self-titled debut album. Life in the creative, romantic French capital tended to blend moments of beauty with those of struggle, mostly in financial matters and in dealing with music industry types. Still, the pair clung on to their lives in the city and drew from it a rich vein of song writing inspirations.

Now back in Melbourne, the exciting but humbling experience has resulted in a new maturity to their music, and a new perspective on life in general. The new album ‘Boom Boom’ is produced by Luuk Cox (Shameboy, Girls in Hawaii, Stromae & MLCD), and the time will soon be right to share it with the wider world.

Over the years Belle Roscoe have either supported or played alongside many major Australian artists including Jet, Cat Empire, Husky, Wolf Mother, James Reyne, Killing Heidi and more, as well playing countless festivals and sold out shows in both Europe and Australia. Hard working and genuine in their love of the art, Belle Roscoe are set to make 2015 a breakthrough year.

And, if you’re in any doubt as to their pedigree, they even have a live appearance on TV soap Neighbours to their name. How many up and coming bands can say that?
