Aysha Loren wants to ‘Keep It Like It Is’

Effective pop-reggae single out now, taken from ‘Back To You’ EP due July 7th

Readying herself for her first full release after a long break from the industry, Aysha Loren has released funky reggae track ‘Keep It Like It Is’ as a teaser for upcoming EP ‘Back To You’.

The single, a rhythmic blend of pop and reggae with a slice of funk for good measure, does a great job of ramping up the excitement for the EP, showcasing Aysha’s strong vocal with effective, relatable lyrics about choosing to stay ‘just friends’ with someone rather than risk it all by starting a relationship.

An experienced artist, Aysha Loren’s family has a successful background in the music industry which led her to a support slot for huge US group Destiny’s Child on their UK tour in her early days. More recently, Aysha has shared the stage with the talented likes of John Holt, Frankie Paul, Janet Kay and Luciano. Having taken a long break in between to start a family, she fell in love with the stage again after performing at a Whitney Houston tribute concert, the start of a journey which will culminate in the EP release on July 7th.

This experience led her to writing and performing again, re-building her reputation over the last couple of years which have seen Aysha reach the finals of the National UK Open Mic Competition as well as being named as Vibes FM Record of the Week for three weeks running.

Single ‘Keep It Like It Is’ is out now, with the ‘Back To You’ EP out on July 7th.

Music Prodigy Starts up own Music Label

‘Mini Mozart’ to become youngest record label boss in history with Music Raiser:

The World’s first crowd funded record label!

Prodigious 10 year old pianist Curtis Elton ATCL (1st year of a university degree) and brand new crowd funding website Music Raiser are teaming up this month, aiming to make Elton the youngest record label boss in history.

Already a huge success in the EU, MusicRaiser is a unique site designed to support musicians as the world’s first crowd funded record label. Launching in the UK, one of the first projects on their agenda will see ‘Mini Mozart’ Curtis Elton pledge to set up a record label to promote talented child musicians.

*** FOR EXCLUSIVE SALE *** BYLINE: TOPSTAR CONTACT: Jon Bushell - 07805 471922 jon@topstarpictures.com

Curtis got the idea having been unceremoniously turned away from this year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in spite of getting four ‘yes’ votes and rave reviews from the judges. The change of fortunes was especially surprising as producers had sought out the talented pianist to try again after booting him out at the same stage in 2011. Having been given assurances that the same would not happen this time, Elton was disappointed to learn that he would once again not make it to the live semi-finals.

But rather than resting on his laurels, Curtis is using the disappointment to come back fighting and make his own way in the music industry – as well as giving other talented youngsters the chance to do the same with the help of MusicRaiser.

With over €1 million raised in its first year on the EU mainland, MusicRaiser has an existing community of 40,000 fundraisers looking for the best new music projects in the industry. UK artists will be able to call on this community for the first time – including Curtis Elton, the ‘Mini Mozart’ looking to blaze trails as the youngest label boss ever.

Aussie four piece Velshur precede stunning debut EP with single ‘Spanish Sound’

Single out June 6th, soon to be followed by self titled debut EP and EU/UK tour

A combination of funk rock, pop and soul, four piece Velshur are set to explode onto British shores this summer. Having just been to the UK and EU for some debut shows, they are now set for their first international release and will be returning to the UK and E.U in September!

One of the hardest working bands on the Australian circuit, a combination of residencies and touring saw them play 96 gigs over the four months of the Aussie snow season, very quickly building their fanbase and a reputation for performing their brand of soul warming funk rock. They are most often compared to Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dandy Warhols and The Strokes.

In the months since, the band have been working equally hard to put together their first 4 track EP, to be introduced in early June with the debut single ‘Spanish Sound’.

Listen to hear the track here: https://soundcloud.com/velshur/spanishsound

Watch the video trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AplXvhl9d2g

The track is a bombastic, slow build funk rock song with solid rhythms, basslines and guitar riffs that work together to support a rasping rock vocal. It’s all wrapped around a huge, hooky chorus that leaves little wonder as to why Velshur delighted hundreds of fans night after night during their Winter residencies.

The single and EP were put together under the watchful dials of Grammy nominated engineer Blake Eiseman, who has worked with the likes of James Brown to Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Pink to Pearl Jam and a number of other big-name artists, with initial production help from Nicholas Wilson, who has recently worked with Wolfmother and toured with Seasick Steve and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin . Once it’s out fans around the globe will undoubtedly be tuning in and dancing to their much anticipated debut release.

Highly anticipated Fjokra EP ‘Thoughtsteps’ arrives June 9th

Versatile Irish songwriter looks to build on a growing reputation with brand new release

Influenced by a list of genres and artists taking in classical, metal, funk, jazz and more, Fjokra is an artist who is nigh on impossible to pigeonhole.

Born in Dublin and now living in London, he is a multi-instrumentalist whose music takes in so many different ideas and angles that to tie him down to one genre or style is a fool’s errand – just as it seems you have his sound sussed, a new idea will come and slap you in the face. And that’s just the way Fjokra likes it.

You can see the video for EP track ‘Infinite Loops’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5FrW1UyVyY

‘Thoughtsteps’ is an EP that tantalises and astounds. With the album name, artwork and musical content designed to demonstrate alternative, free and independent forms of thinking, the varied style is all tied together by the consistent high quality of the recordings. Even more impressively, the EP is primarily self-produced but for one track from producer Donald Clark (Guns ‘n’ Roses, Muse).

It’s little wonder that Fjokra counts Mick Jones (The Clash), Duran Duran, and Beardyman amongst his fans – and this range of musicians gives you a glimpse into the wide audience demographics the music is connecting with. Peanut Baines of the Kaiser Chiefs put it his own way, labelling Fjokra ‘sex music for metallers’.

With a fan base that is widening thanks to a unique live show (performed with his eponymous band), Fjokra has already graced the stage at Beach Break Festival and Liverpool Sound City. They also performed at a very special concert which saw Tyondai Braxton (of Battles) premiere his new orchestral piece ‘Central Market’ – a truly inspiring experience for the band. And now, with ‘Thoughtsteps’ only a few weeks away and a slot at the Isle of Wight Festival this summer, he is using that inspiration to fuel his forward momentum.

And if you’re still not convinced that this is an artist with a unique approach, then perhaps his unusual approach to promoting the EP will help. In addition to releasing the songs and music videos, Fjokra has also recorded for each track a cookery show, punning on the song titles from the EP. Due to be posted on YouTube and fjokra.com shortly after the songs themselves are released, the tasty teasers will make this EP a truly multi-sensory experience.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for acoustic versions of the EP tracks, recorded in a guitar shop and due on the Fjokra YouTube channel soon.

‘Thoughtsteps’ will be available from June 9th.

Papermoons – No Love

papermoons no love daniel and micheal

Papermoons achieves a balance of rock and indie tones that collide to create a truly meaningful and immersive piece of music.

In an interview about the album, John Szuch at Deep Elms (the label responsible for the duo) had this to say “Since the release of our debut New Tales back in 2009, Daniel and I went through some pretty big life changes: marriage, moving, finishing school. The songs on No Love were inspired by the personal growth we experienced due to all these changes. Playing music together has always been special to us. We wanted to write these songs to sort of break the silence of the past several years. We feel the album is a focused, fresh start for the next stage of Papermoons. ‘No Love’ is a tongue in cheek moniker for an album of often serious content. The songs explore the duality of our emotions, how we experience love, and how our perception of these emotions changes over time. The cover features a photograph that Daniel took at Muir Beach overlook in California because we feel it is at once beautiful and lonely. It represents the duality of our emotions…a topic explored throughout the album. It’s been a cathartic experience to finish No Love and we are both very proud of the end result. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it” says Matt Clark. Daniel Hawkins adds “we draw a lot from the concept of making more out of less. We try to create songs that are easy, innocent and pleasant to listen to but that also contain subtle complexities that make listening more interesting and enjoyable. We strive to make music that can both cheer someone up and also console. We’ve both been involved with playing music for many years now and what has been continually inspiring to us is the way in which music connects people. And of course, the personal satisfaction of creating music is second to none.”

The two guys behind this indie/rock LP are Matt Clark (Vocals, Guitar, Pedal bass) and Daniel Hawkins (drums, vocals, hand percussion). No Love was produced, engineered and mixed over the course of a year. Whilst the tried and tested theme of love and heart break may not win any awards for originality, this long player still has a certain turn it up quality to it.

‘Guitar Muse’ single from The Cheek of Her out May 12th

Second single from album ‘Adult Angst Anonymous’ out May 30th

Singer-songwriter Helen Dooley, aka The Cheek of Her, is set to release the second single from upcoming album ‘Adult Angst Anonymous’ (AAA) on May 12th. A track about taking on her own musical independence after relying on a string of guitar players to play her songs, it’s an empowering and unique pop track.

You can see an acoustic solo performance of ‘Guitar Muse’ here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW05cCQSDIw

A passionate songwriter with a truly individual sound, vocal and sensibility, The Cheek of Her comes across like Lily Allen but with a darker cut to her lyrics.

It’s an approach that is starting to garner plenty of interest, with previous single ‘Write Me A Letter’ being featured on Radio 2, as well as positive reviews for previous work from the likes of Female First and music-news.com.

Due on May 30th, ‘Adult Angst Anonymous’ is set to be the culmination of her hard work and passion – her first full length album after a number of EPs, chock full of quirky songs written from the heart.

‘Guitar Muse’ will be available online from May 12th, followed by the ‘AAA’ LP May 30th.

The Enigmatic Vagabond Flag Debuts ‘Not Afraid’, June 16th from Debut Album out July 4th

Vagabond Flag is somewhat of an enigma. His focus is on the music pure and simple; he made the decision to produce an album of quality music, which he was absolutely proud of, before releasing anything publicly. Quite a refreshing approach.

Vagabond Flag’s background is steeped in emotional conflict and tension. He was, like most of us, affected by the 9/11 terror attacks in New York. He started to notice previously thinly masked social divides and became aware that culturally and racially the West was far more paranoid and far less secure than it had previously considered itself. He also saw that the way countries like the US and the UK responded sought only to compound the effects of terror by clamping down on liberty, rather than working against it. These thoughts, which were inescapable at the time, fuelled the fire for Vagabond Flag and encouraged him to return to his love of music. He always knew he had songs and stories in him – it was just a matter of amassing the courage to take some time out from his day job and get writing and recording.

Vagabond Flag’s debut release, ‘Not Afraid’, incorporates these ideas and puts them into words which resonate politically today. He sings:

“You think I’ll turn and hide because you think in this world the strong survive You think you own this world…

So you can try to get me to run

But I’m not afraid of you

No I’m not afraid of you“

Listen to the track here: https://soundcloud.com/vagabond-flag

These are undoubtedly words which protesters from Kiev to Cairo might find poignant today. Musically, ‘Not Afraid’ draws on a Lo-fi indie inspired sound reminiscent of 90s garage rock. Clearly Vagabond Flag draws musical influence from the likes of early Oasis or Pixies, and lyrically from thoughtful and quality acts such as Eels or Radiohead. On top of this Vagabond Flag himself claims that his musical inspirations range from house / DnB artists like Photek to modern R&B legends like Erykah Badu. Despite, Vagabond Flag’s clear ideological drive to write and the influence of his background, his main inspirations come from the world of music. He is an artist and ultimately just wants to put into words and notes what is happening in his head – an admirable objective in itself.
